The 21-year-old is understood to be keen on a move to Gresty Road, where he enjoyed a productive spell on loan last year as part of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy-winning squad.

Inman has rejected a new deal at St James' Park but, given he is under 24, the Premier League outfit are entitled to a compensation package.

Alex hope to avoid that scenario and have made an improved bid with the ball now firmly in Newcastle's court.
