Centre-back Mkandawire was forced off early on in Shrews' Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Oldham at the start of the month nursing a hamstring injury and has missed the club's last three matches.

But he is closing in on his return to action, as is striker John Marsden after he sustained a broken foot in only Town's second game of the season.

Manager Graham Turner told the club's official website: "Tam's in full training now so we will see how the week pans out. Whether he will be available for the squad on Saturday remains to be seen.

"We have a reserve game next week against Wigan and I would expect John Marsden to take part in that game and for Tam to be available for that one.

"We've got an open mind to see whether he's ready for Saturday."
