Reports surfaced last week that the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, the spiritual leader of Tibet, would visit the EBB Stadium and on Thursday the Shots confirmed the news.

A statement from the club read: "Following on from recent media announcements Aldershot Town Football Club is delighted to confirm that the Dalai Lama will be visiting the EBB Stadium on Thursday 21 June 2012."

Speaking on behalf of the club, associate director Richard Petty said: "This is a huge honour not just for the football club but for the whole town that the organisers BCCUK (Buddhist Community Centre for the UK) have managed to secure this visit. We are very proud to be the venue for such an important occasion

"To make this wonderful event even more beneficial for his followers and anyone else who would like to attend the whole of his talk will be delivered in English."

The Tibetan figurehead is undertaking an eight-day UK tour, delivering a series of talks at venues including London's Royal Albert Hall and the Manchester Arena.
