Ainsworth, 39, played a vital role in Matt McClure's opening goal in Tuesday night's League Two clash at Adams Park, only for Guy Madjo to level for the visitors with a second-half header.

But the player-manager's voice cracked with passion as he paid tribute to the efforts of the Wanderers squad, who almost snatched a win at the death when Joel Grant's powerful effort was clawed away by Argyle keeper Jake Cole.

He said: "To say that there was emotion in my voice talking to the boys on the pitch in the huddle at the end and in the dressing room would be an understatement.

"They know what they mean to me and I've told them that the season starts here today because that's the best performance I've seen at Adams Park for many a day, and that's no disrespect to anyone in the past.

"It was an amazing performance by the lads. We're not getting carried away, we didn't win, but I think it's a step in the right direction."

heyremind me of Utd's treble winning side. Swashbuckling and risk prone. We ha Jaap Stam to paper over the cracks at the back though. Not sure they have their Jaap yet.

he solution is to not feel sorry for any of Jabba, Gold or Sullivan. They're all deeply unpleasant and all deserve each other. If only West Ham would sign Barton and Suarez then no one would ever need to despise any other club.
