Cresswell, whose Shrimpers side make the League Two visit to South Yorkshire on Saturday, was surprisingly released by the Millers in the summer, despite being club captain, meaning he missed out on the chance to lead his hometown club out at their brand-new 12,000-seater home.

The 24-year-old played an integral part in publicising the new stadium as it was being built and was left devastated when Steve Evans told him he was surplus to requirements.

"That really was one of the reasons why I felt gutted," he said. "Obviously Rotherham are my hometown club, I was captain of the side and it was fantastic, but seeing the stadium built and doing some press work for it and then not getting to play in it was gutting.

"There will be a lot of family and friends there on Saturday. I am looking forward to it, I just hope that I get a good reception, I think I will, I don't think I ever did anything wrong.

"I wish Rotherham all the best for the future, but first and foremost this Saturday I hope we can go and get something from the game."

heyremind me of Utd's treble winning side. Swashbuckling and risk prone. We ha Jaap Stam to paper over the cracks at the back though. Not sure they have their Jaap yet.

he solution is to not feel sorry for any of Jabba, Gold or Sullivan. They're all deeply unpleasant and all deserve each other. If only West Ham would sign Barton and Suarez then no one would ever need to despise any other club.
