Allen satisfied with a point

Gillingham boss Martin Allen says the 0-0 draw with last season's play-off finalists Cheltenham is worth more than a point.

Gills top scorer Danny Kedwell could not convert the game's best chance, smashing a shot against the crossbar from close range just before half-time as the leaders controlled proceedings after the Robins had dominated the early exchanges.

But the ex-Cheltenham boss said he expects his former club to be promoted and believes it is his players' job to remain above their rivals.

"The lads are really disappointed but I'm not because I think its a good point," he said. "They don't gain on us, the other teams at the top drew, so it's good news.

"It is another point towards the finishing post - we know the top teams in this competition are going to be tough to beat, but for the attitude and commitment of our players I'm happy. They (Cheltenham) were so unlucky not to win at Wembley and to be honest they should be playing in the division above now."

Robins counterpart Mark Yates added: "Teams have come here and been destroyed so we did really well, and a point is a good result."
