Ogogo: Gayle a great player

Abu Ogogo is confident Dagenham have got enough attacking quality at their disposal to cope with the loss of Dwight Gayle.

Gayle: Daggers' topscorer

Gayle: Daggers' topscorer

The highly-rated 23-year-old, who already has seven goals to his name in what is his debut season, last week joined Championship side Peterborough on loan until early January, when he is then due to return to Victoria Road.

But Ogogo, while admitting the Daggers have lost a top player temporarily, believes they have enough in their locker to deal with Gayle's departure. The Dagenham skipper said: "Dwight's a good player, he's scored some goals.

"He is going to be missed but we've got a lot of strikers and attacking players who can come in for him - Josh Scott, Brian Woodall, Jake Reed, Sam Williams, Medy Elito. So he is going to be a miss but we've got players who can fill the gap."

Question marks remain over where Gayle's long-term future lies, although Ogogo believes the striker, who scored a total of 99 goals during the past two seasons on loan at non-league Stansted and then Bishop's Stortford, can make it to the very top of the game.

"He's 23 years of age, he's good with both feet, he's good in the air for his height, he scores goals and he holds up play well," Ogogo added. "He's got all the attributes to be a top player."
