The Pilgrims have shortlisted a number of candidates as they look for an experienced former manager to assist the manager at Home Park and Fletcher, 32, knows what sort of appointment the club need.

"There is no point bringing someone in whose ideals about football are punting it up to a big man and going from there because that's not how we want to play football," he told the Plymouth Herald.

"We want to keep the ball on the ground, if we can, and play when it's on. Someone with the same ideas as me would be a benefit.

"For me to get better, it's important to get the right person in."

Fletcher's side face a Devon derby at Exeter after the visit of York this weekend and the Wales international believes the set-up down at St James Park, where director of football Steve Perryman has been assisting manager Paul Tisdale since he arrived at the club in 2006, is a good example of what the Pilgrims need.

"It's important we get the right person in - someone who wants to be at the football club and gets on with the manager," he said.

"You have seen it at Exeter City with Steve Perryman and Paul Tisdale. They get on really well. I think it wouldn't work if they didn't get on."
