He has also moved a step closer to being available to feature against Carl Fletcher's men.

The 28-year-old was an ever-present for City in League Two until he picked up a calf injury at Cheltenham in late October, but he returned to action when he started for City's reserves in their 1-1 draw with their Bristol City counterparts on Tuesday.

He said: "Hopefully I'll be back playing 90 minutes again soon and helping the team get some points. I was enjoying playing and playing games back to back was what I needed.

"This has been a little set-back but you get them throughout your career. I think I've shown the lads and the manager what I can do and I was looking to kick on and add to my game, something I'll be hoping to do when I'm back fit."

Exeter and Plymouth last met in League One in April 2011 when the Grecians' 1-0 win effectively relegated their biggest rivals. And Davies admits next Saturday's midday clash is one that has been on the players' radar for a while.

"The home fans sing about it every game and I've spoken to a few of the lads who have played in it and they tell you how much the derby means to everyone," he said. "It'll be a great atmosphere and it is a great time of year to have it, because we have Torquay the week after and they'll be great occasions.

"Christmas is an important part of the season for us going into the new year. We will try and kick on again like we've shown we can do already this season."

Davies made the move to Devon after leaving Northampton in the summer, the second time he has played in the south west having spent three successful years with Yeovil, and he admits he has settled in already.

"I like it down here," he said. "It is a nice city and these are a good bunch of lads. On my days off I've got a nice city to look around and it is not too far from home in Cardiff so I can shoot back there and they come to all the games. Location wise it has been perfect."

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.
