Vale still sit second in League Two, with two of those three losses coming in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and the FA Cup to Bradford and Sheffield United respectively.

But third-placed Cheltenham have closed the gap to just one point, and Adams wants his players to refocus before the crucial Christmas period.

He told the Staffordshire Sentinel: "We've not been at it in recent games, it's as simple as that. We have to get back out on the training ground and work as hard as we can, and we've been doing that.

"I ordered double shifts for the first couple of days this week. It's not a punishment, but I don't think it hurts people to be reminded of what we're about, about good habits and what has got us to where we are.

"We're still second in table and we've given ourselves a platform to work from. I'm sure there are lots of teams below us who would snatch your hand off if you said they could change places with us.

"There's no panic and no crisis, certainly not in our own minds, but we need the bigger players to come alive again and show everybody what they're capable of doing."
