Diamond was sent off for head-butting Dons defender Pim Balkestein as the two players jostled for position at an Albion corner in the 76th minute.

While manager Gary Rowett is convinced his captain did not head-butt Balkestein, he also feels the video footage from the game is not clear enough to support a successful appeal.

Having been sent off already this season, centre-half Diamond will now serve a four-match suspension.

Rowett told the club's official website: "We have had a look over the weekend at what footage is available and we can see that there is a tussle between the two of them and Zander has tried to free himself.

"We don't think there was any contact but there isn't going to be enough footage to prove nothing happened.

"By getting involved in a tussle with their defender Zander has acted very much out of character and it was a situation that he shouldn't have got involved in, although the Wimbledon player didn't help things.

"Whilst we still feel that the red card was somewhat harsh, Zander probably shouldn't have allowed himself to get into that situation.

"If we feel the incident needs to be dealt with further then it will be dealt with internally."

Meanwhile, Burton defender Andy Corbett has had his loan spell at Hereford extended. Corbett has made five appearances for the Bulls since moving to Edgar Street on New Year's Day and he will remain at the Blue Square Bet Premier side for a second month.
