Watford loanee Britt Assombalonga's late winner and Barry Corr's tap in just after half-time completed a comeback win for Southend, their first in four in the league.

Dean Morgan had given Wycombe hope of ending their own run of back-to-back defeats after pouncing in the seventh minute, but it wasn't to be for the Chairboys.

Southend booked a trip to Wembley for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final after defeating Leyton Orient 3-2 on aggregate after a 2-2 draw at Roots Hall on Wednesday.

However Sturrock - elated with the performance of Assombalonga - is rather focussing on their next fixtures in the league and ensuring they repeat their performance against Wycombe.

"I thought the excitement of Wednesday was going to take its toll but the boys rolled their sleeves up and got stuck in," said Sturrock.

"The second half we were the better side. We started to dominate a lot and put the ball in the right areas.

"It is good that we have two strikers scoring goals in the second half, in particular. Barry did really well. He has incredible fitness and can run all day.

"Confidence is a great thing, Britt scored and he said he felt much better. He is doing all the things he did before he stopped scoring.

"We have a hard game on Tuesday against a team [Torquay] who are scrapping for their lives and then we have a game on Saturday against a team [Fleetwood] who are chasing promotion."
