Nigel Worthington: On a recruitment mission

The Minstermen slipped into the bottom two on Tuesday night as relegation rivals Accrington, Barnet, Plymouth and Torquay all won.

Latest loan signing Richard Cresswell is expected to go straight into the starting line-up at Torquay on Saturday following his return to the club on loan from Sheffield United, and Worthington is anxious to further strengthen before next Thursday's deadline.

"We've tried a number of avenues to try and bring in some more experienced players into the group and that's ongoing," Worthington said.

"We hope Richard can have an immediate impact here. He's a very experienced, high-quality player and he obviously lives in York.

"He also started his career here and has the football club at heart. That is the type of player we're looking to bring in here.

"We're hoping to use Richard's experience to help steady some nerves in the squad, while at the same time benefit from his fighting qualities.

"He's has had a very good career and we're hoping he can play a big part for us."
