The Gulls were given a helping hand when they took the lead with a freak goal in the 28th minute. Rene Howe and Stewart Drummond challenged in the air, with the Morecambe defender passing back to his own goal only to see home 'keeper Barry Roche let the ball crawl under his feet and into the net.

The sucker punch was an added blow for the Shrimps, who had found themselves a man down four minutes earlier when teenage debutant Chris Doyle was shown a straight red card for hauling down Elliot Benyon.

To their credit Morecambe came out fighting and Andy Wright hit the woodwork with a superb volley from the edge of the area, but the Gulls crucially doubled their advantage through Ashley Yeoman in the 69th minute.

"We had a lot of players playing out of position but you would not have thought so," Bentley said.

"There were some real standout performances and we did everything but score, with a clear penalty turned down before they scored on the break and that killed the game off.

"We were under the cosh before the game with all our normal central defenders injured and to then lose Chris Doyle early on was a huge blow.

"To then see them score with such a freak goal added to the problems but from then on I thought we were fantastic and played some great football.

"We wanted to end our home season with a victory but unfortunately couldn't manage that, but I think the fans knew we had given our all and when you do that you can't ask for much more."

All Platini is doing is making billionaries pay measly fines, so he and his cronies can get rich. If a fool can pay 50 mil for David Luiz, he will happily pay some fine to UEFA. FFP has failed as for it to succeed UEFA had to take it...
