Luke Guttridge, Roy O'Donovan, Ben Tozer, Ben Harding and Nathan Cameron are still to inform Town of their intentions having been offered fresh terms at Sixfields, with captain Kelvin Langmead and fellow defender Lee Collins last month putting pen to paper.

Cobblers chairman David Cardoza expects to hear from the remaining quintet imminently before boss Aidy Boothroyd can then start to action his summer rebuilding plans.

"We're still waiting on the players we've offered contracts to, we'll know within the next 24 hours who's going to accept our offers and who aren't," Cardoza told Cobblers Player on Tuesday.

"I suspect most will, maybe one or two won't, some will be happy with their offers and some won't.

"Once we know what budget we've got after that - obviously there's work going on to get our targets - but then we can actually go and get them and hopefully there'll be some movement in the next few days."

Cardoza added: "Aidy has got a long list (of potential targets). He's very well organised and between his coaching staff they've come up four or five names minimum per position.

"So getting the players is not the worry, it's getting into budget and just making sure we're competitive."

resumably, you wanted to keep the version of Downing that was never seen at Anfield. The one that another manager has managed to re-create. The one you passed over.

he uber commercialisation of the 90s has led to the point where this overly familar, try hard, jolly hockey sticks type fronts up a major football match on a weekly basis. Unlike the great presenters of yesteryear, I doubt he would even recognise the scent of Brut.
