The Shrimps were depleted in the striking department this summer when Lewis Alessandra opted to move to Plymouth and Jack Redshaw, their top scorer last season, sustained a hip injury which will keep him sidelined for the first half of the campaign.

With the club also electing not to offer Danny Carlton a contract, the need for an attacker was paramount.

They have now agreed a two-year deal with Amond and are hoping the Football League will ratify the deal in time for him to feature against Wycombe on Saturday.

Amond scored nine times last season for Stanley, and boss Jim Bentley told the club's official website: "Padraig is a good player who impressed me while at Accrington last year and I have been impressed with him this summer.

"He is a great lad to have around the place and has good experience at League 2 level and he has all the attributed needed to become a big player for us."
