The 21-year-old right-back has been offered an undisclosed contract following a successful trial and goes straight into manager Colin Cooper's squad for Saturday's visit of Fleetwood.

Duckworth, a former York trainee, won supporters', players' and manager's player of the year awards at Park Avenue last season.

Pools signed Middlesbrough midfielder Matty Dolan on a month's loan on Wednesday and he too will be in contention for his first appearance against The Cod Army as the club chase their first win of the season.

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.
