The 27-year-old was forced off with a knee injury during the first half of the 3-2 defeat to AFC Wimbledon at the weekend.

Initial fears were that the central midfielder would face a lengthy spell on the treatment table, but Iron boss Laws is hopeful he will be without his captain for just the one game at most.

"He is certainly doubtful for the weekend but we believe the injury that he has suffered is not as bad as first thought," he told the club's official website.

"He went to see the specialist on Tuesday and there is no immediate damage from what he can see but we just want to get it clarified by at least a scan.

"We will certainly have a clearer picture come Thursday to know exactly the extent of the damage."

If the news is that Collins will be sidelined for longer, Laws has denied that he would need to rush to find a replacement.

"We know exactly where we are with a replacement should we need to replace Michael in the middle of the park," he added.

"As a team we have been working on some scenarios. We have got all the players in there to be able to adapt to it.

"The (transfer) window does not close for us so there is no rush to get any business done."

lassic management. Build them up and then knock them back. Raise expectations and then dampen them. Create a dynamic where by you demand the most from your team, but where the team are given room to manoeuvre unexpected or unwanted results. Classy work by Van Gaal, he really reminds me a lot of me. A smart cookie, make no doubt.
