The ex-Barnsley manager returned to the Shakers, whom he represented during his playing career, last Monday night and took over a team struggling in the Sky Bet League Two table after some poor results under first Kevin Blackwell and then interim boss Ronnie Jepson.

The fresh era began with a 1-1 draw against Northampton, another of the division's out-of-sorts teams, and Flitcroft assured fans it will take time to see the fruits of his labor, referring to the psychological theory that habits become formed after 66 days.

"You've got to commit to it," Flitcroft said.

"If you stop smoking you have to commit to that 100%, you can't just have a crafty fag after four days.

"It's the same with this group here; I've got a lot of teaching to do. They want to come along, I've looked in their eyes and every single one of them wants to come along on this journey."

One of those players who could take time to benefit from Flitcroft's ideology is striker Ashley Grimes, who the new manager knows from their time together at Rochdale.

Grimes was recalled to the starting line-up against the Cobblers, but is still yet to register a goal in 10 games for Bury.

"I think the Ashley Grimes I know needs a lot of love," Flitcroft added.

"He needs a lot of support, he needs a lot more work.

"He's been left out on the sidelines really so he isn't as sharp as where he needs to be or as strong as I need him to be."

ood lord that's got me unnecessarily excited. Damn you Storey. Cut to Liverpool being crushed under the wheels of Sparky's Stoke Machine and Firmino brought off the bench to no effect. It's the hope that kills you.

think he'll do quite well. My only reservation would be Kagawa, who had similar stats to Firmino in the bundesliga before he came, but time will tell.
