The 30-year-old left Brentford earlier this month and did enough during a training game for the Iron to earn a short-term contract, which will begin on January 1.

It will be Hayes' third spell at a club where he has scored 74 goals in over 250 appearances. He has spent time with Preston, Barnsley, Charlton and Wycombe since leaving Scunthorpe for the second time in 2010.

Hayes will have to wait until the home game against Bristol Rovers on January 4 to make his latest Iron debut.
