The Whites have made an inconsistent start to the 2013/14 campaign, with four defeats in their last five leaving them in the bottom half of the Championship standings.

Frustration is starting to show in the stands, while those inside the camp held a lengthy discussion about the way forward following a 3-1 reversal at Derby County on Saturday.

McDermott is confident that he can turn things around, but is looking for everyone connected with the club to start pulling in the same direction.

He said in the Yorkshire Evening Post: "We need to get a mentality where we're very difficult to play against away from home.

"It's not about hoping to get a result. It's about knowing that you're going to get a result. That's where we've got to go to, somehow, but it's amazing what you can do.

"Things can happen and players who've been written off previously can get a winning mentality. I've seen it before.

"Can we foster that? Definitely. I'm determined to get it right."

Leeds now have the international break to work on righting a few wrongs, and McDermott will use the next two weeks to look at ways of improving his squad - with the loan window still open.

He said on the club's official website: "We'll try and find some players - and work with what we have. I'm looking at what we need to do to make ourselves better.

"I'm as frustrated as anybody. It's 19 games since we came here, that is a short period of time, and nobody wants to do this more than me."
