The Scots travel to Warsaw this week to take on Poland in a friendly at the National Stadium, which will give boss Gordon Strachan a chance to run the rule over their Euro 2016 qualifying opponents.

McGhee concedes the mood in the Scotland camp is positive regarding the forthcoming campaign, and that is partly down to the increasing options in attack.

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has made an impressive impact since his recent arrival at the club with four goals in three games, including a hat-trick against Inverness Caley on Saturday.

Griffiths will be competing with Ross McCormack of Leeds, Sunderland's Steven Fletcher, Blackburn's Jordan Rhodes and Craig Mackail-Smith of Brighton in the coming months.

And McGhee insists the five strikers will have to hit the ground running next season to secure starting places for Scotland.

"There are a fairly limited number of players that we feel are going to be good enough to qualify us, Leigh Griffiths is one of them," said McGhee.

"And we think that with Leigh Griffiths being at Celtic now, and the new experience he will have next year of the Champions League and all that, can only make him a better player.

"And it can only make him more prepared and more effective for the national team.

"We'd expect him to get a lot of goals between now and the end of the season and then it will be about the start to the (new) season.

"The group of strikers we'll have to choose from, maybe even Mackail-Smith will be fit by then, and you've got Ross McCormack, you've got Steven Fletcher, Leigh Griffiths, Jordan Rhodes, so you've got all this group who'll all be vying.

"It's not about who is playing well now and who is scoring hat-tricks for Celtic today, it's going to be about August, September, the start of the season and how they are looking then."

e have the personnel. The trick is keeping them fit. Carrick and Blind have missed large chunks of the season, while the defence has been one muddled mess of intermittent stooges, all coming and going at various intervals thus far. We may be just short of title winning quality, but we're half way through. An injury crisis to either of the top two could change things. Optimistic, yes, but not unrealistic.

arish is the man to blame for this shambles. Pulis must be chuckling into his left over turkey sandwich. I pray this doesn't mean the Neil Warnock media machine will kick in now and he'll be back on the telly box.

e almost found a new way to lose, just when I thought it was getting boring Giroud does that. Although Arsenal are deservedly called 'soft' the entire midfield is out injured. Still must admit MU are managing to win despite a similar raft of absentees. Think the Gunners have good players but poorly coached.
