Stewart Downing says Luis Suarez should be judged on his football and not his chequered past when it comes to deciding the Player of the Year.
m curious as to what image Real Madrid are trying to re-establish as I always thought their pre-Jose image was one of a bunch of a classless bullies tapping up whoever they wanted while living it large on borrowed money they're never going to pay back.
t the start of the season, after the RVP transfer, I confidently claimed that Arsenal would finish above United. I now regret it immensely.
aniel Storey generally did very well, going against the City won it last year so they're bound to win it this time grain. As for John Nicholson, I wouldn't trust him to predict correctly what day of the week it will be tomorrow.
Asmir Begovic has hinted he will be joining Liverpool after the Stoke goalkeeper reportedly said he was preparing for pre-season at Melwood.

We thought we would have to resort to another mailbox about maths but we've had some grand opinions about Man United, Newcastle, Tottenham and more. Oh and maths...
We have one Chelsea fan who recognises the job done by Rafa Benitez while there's maths from Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester. And Shawcross to Arsenal? Nah...

varicoseregent - on that note, remind me of why Suarez was sent off against Ghana? It seems to fit your criteria of when a player should take a red.

@pricklywit - I don't think any defender would willingly take a red for their team. A yellow yes, but not a red. Not unless it was the last second of a cup final and they were stopping an equaliser, perhaps then they would.

I thin this season we're somewhat blessed to have three players who are truly excelling in their own right. Suarez is carrying Liverpool single handedly at times. Bale has developed into the hottest property in Europe whilst Van Persie has proved that last season was not a one off and has contributed pricelessly towards whats is surely another Man Utd title. All three have been world class. However, with all three excelling as they are, surely the casting votes will be balleted based on "other stuff". It's only natural that human nature will focus on such things. When the good stuff draws a blank, is it not default to look at the bad........?

In all fairness, RVP probably deserves it at this stage, all things considered. Suarez and Bale are both excellent footballers too but not better than RVP (for now anyway). Of course he might collapse in the final stages but right now, it's hard to see past RVP. It's funny how quick the Spurs and United fans are to brand Suarez a cheat though. I certainly don't deny that he is but his diving is no worse than Bale's and no worse than Rooney's, Young's, Nani's. Anyone who says they, along with every professional footballer on the planet, wouldn't have done the same as Suarez in the World Cup, under those circumstances, is either a liar or massively self-deluded. Honestly, I believe he probably is racist but again, we only have the word of someone who has history of falsely accusing people of racism and was classless enough to try to provoke Suarez the next time they met on the pitch, both before and after the match. Suarez is no angel and there's no denying it but maybe a few of you should think about what you've defended before you castigate one of the best players currently playing the game.

I'm not saying Bale or RVP have a track-record of naughtiness as long as Suarez does .. but things like Bale's constant diving and RVP's tanty's when things don't go his way are undesirable too. You can't rule a player out of the POTY award simply because you personally don't like him. Bale and RVP have been outstanding, but so has Suarez .. he is current top scorer in the league in a team further down the table, and has single-handedly destroyed teams this season. Bale has done similar .. winning a few games by himself. Van Persie has continued his class act, but I feel his great play is more to do with the team playing well than it is for Bale or Suarez - and for me it should probably be the Spurs man. It is terribly hard to pick though - all 3 are world class.

pricklywit - since when has suarez ever taken a red card for the team? suarez gets OTHERS sent off not himself

When a defender takes a red for a team, it's deemed a "professional foul". When Suarez does the same, it's cheating.

@varicoseregent - RVP over Bale then as the latter has been booked for diving on a number of occasions this season.
