The striker revealed on Sunday that he had cancelled his summer holiday in order to discuss a switch to the Premier League.

He said: "When I heard of Liverpool's interest I did not hesitate even for a minute.

"Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world and although I had offers from Italy and Portugal and other countries I decided my future was in English football."

Aspas has agreed personal terms with Liverpool, who in turn have settled on a fee with Celta.

The 25-year-old jetted into England on Monday evening to put the finishing touches to the transfer, with medical examinations having to be passed before he can put pen to paper.

Aspas arrived on Merseyside with his brother, who is also his agent, alongside him and is set to become Brendan Rodgers' second signing of the summer - following Kolo Toure into the Anfield ranks.

It is understood that Liverpool have agreed to pay around £7million for a man who netted 12 goals for Celta as they avoided relegation out of La Liga on the final day of the season.

irst Townsend, now Chiles. What next ITV? Comedy that you can actually watch without vomiting up your own spleen? I'll be sad to see Matt Smith go though. I actually quite like him. Plus, he was good in Doctor Who.

wful, awful pundit. He was crap on BBC, and offered a little more analysis than Robbie Savage - apart from the delivery of banality in a sexy accent. Also, as I'm Irish he'll never be more then a slimy, hand-balling f**ker in my eyes.
