If reports are to be believed, the Reds full-back will soon be offered fresh terms to keep him at Anfield.

He will, however, be asked to take a salary cut as Brendan Rodgers and the Liverpool board look to tighten the purse strings.

Johnson is paying little attention to the rumours, with his current deal due to run until 2015, and is confident that an agreement will be reached that suits all parties.

He told The Times: "This is where I want to be. It's where I'm happy and it's what I'm fighting to do at the moment. I'm fighting to get a shirt on again.

"It will resolve itself. I've got 18 months left and no-one's mentioned anything further to me, so my job is to warrant a new contract.

"All I can do is concentrate on working hard and doing well on the pitch. That's served me well over the last five years and I'm sure it will serve me well in the future."

Johnson is also looking for his future to include involvement at the 2014 World Cup.

An untimely knock forced him to sit out the qualification double-header against Montenegro and Poland which got England to Brazil - with Tottenham's Kyle Walker and Manchester United's Chris Smalling deputising in his absence - but Johnson hopes the part he played in the campaign as a whole means he remains very much part of Roy Hodgson's plans.

He added: "I don't worry about what other people do.

"Watching the game, I wanted England to win. It's as simple as that. We all want to be in Brazil in 2014 and there was no way I was going to wish that a player do badly just because he's playing in my position.

"Besides, I was part of it. I played in every game before my injury, so I played a massive part in it.

"Obviously to watch any game that you should be involved in is frustrating. It was fantastic for everyone involved and those are the games you want to play in."
