League success is the one glaring omission on Gerrard’s glittering CV, with cup wins and a UEFA Champions League triumph complemented by 109 caps for England.

At 33 years of age, time is running out on his efforts to take the top-flight crown – but 2014 could be the year in which an Anfield stalwart completes the set.

Sturridge, along with fellow frontman Luis Suarez, has played a key role in firing Liverpool to the top of the table – two points clear of the chasing pack.

With six games left to play, the 20-goal frontman is determined to keep the momentum rolling and help an iconic domestic and international team-mate claim the one piece of major silverware that has so far eluded him.

Sturridge said: “If we win it, Stevie really deserves it, and he should win the Premier League because of everything he has done for this club.

“Every player in this team will do their best to help him achieve that goal.

“He’s been so loyal to Liverpool – he has been world class and still is.

“Stevie will always be a legend, not just for Liverpool but to England as well. He will go down in history as one of the best midfielders in the game, never mind just this club.

“He’s just unbelievable every day, a great leader.

“He lives and dies for this club, he’s been here his whole career and it’s a great pleasure to play with him. Stevie is the perfect example for every young player around the country – a real example for every player.”

Liverpool climbed back to the summit with a 4-0 mauling of Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, but it is a 5-0 crushing of the same opposition back in December which Sturridge credits as being the game which made the Reds believe that they could come out on top.

He added: “Even though I wasn’t involved, I was still in and around the place and it was great to see the boys performing as well as they did.

“But even seeing it from afar, it was a real marker that day.

“Everyone also knew we had to continue playing like that so we weren’t getting too excited.

“The important thing is just to keep working hard and if we do that, I am sure we will continue to get the results.

“There are still six games to go, every one of them huge, so we won’t get too excited just yet. We need to keep getting the job done, because from now it is all about results.”

m only commenting on this (I don't care about Liverpool) because F365's twitter said I had call Matt Stanger a tw*t (which I don't agree with anyway) but I just wanted to be the first. Am I the first?

Trial And Error Rather Than Transition

S

unday, Sunday. Will there be a fan of either team, who if they are winning after 80 mins, won't still be nervous? This could be anything from 0-0 to 5-5, and no one would bat an eye.
