A Big Up For The Big Man
I can't believe there were no mails on Andy Carroll this morning - in his last 3 starts, he's got 2 assists and 1 goal! I have been waiting for Suarez's return to throw him straight back into my fantasy football team but now I might have give the position to the big man...
If it had been Silva and Aguero linking up for the goal last night instead of Adam and Carroll, you lot would've been been creaming in your pants!

What, Because He Was Supposed To Predict This Would Happen?
I've always ignored the ridiculous criticism of Fabio Capello's ability as England manager, but now surely the restoration of John Terry to the captaincy must go down as the biggest miscalculation relating to the national team since Glen Hoddle decided to have a bit of a chin wag about reincarnation.
He definitely deserved the donkey ears for that one.
Dominic Philpot
...In 1970 Bobby Moore was accused of petty theft whilst at a tournament. The entire country was in uproar and disbelief. 'Not our Bobby' they cried. He was an appropriate captain of the country.
In 2012, John Terry could be accused of killing a nun in a hit-n-run accident, whilst heavily under the influence and eloping with the under-age daughter of a local restaurateur (someone who he hadn't paid before he'd being evicted from the premises for being abusive to the clientele whilst attending a photo-op with disadvantaged locals). The nation's reaction would be one of resigned expectation. He is clearly not appropriate to lead this country. Please take this court date as an excuse to take the armband off him.
The role of the captain is generally ignored in other countries, as it's nothing more than a figurehead. Were we to miraculously win a tournament, to have him lift the trophy would really sour the moment (especially as he'd no doubt do it topless whilst still wearing an armband). In Scotty Parker, Joe Hart, Gareth Barry, or Jack Wilshere you have a choice of (by footballers standards) decent people who would be a far more appropriate figurehead. It would be fitting if they could be considered. Heck, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard have only had one major indiscretion in their 14 year careers, so they'd be a better choice. Certainly I'd doubt that any of the above named would start any pathetic mutiny's whilst at the tournament to undermine the manager.

On Fergie
Gavin Kirrage, I am not so sure Fergie is out of touch with the newest generation - I think he just has Utds best interests in mind. As well as morrison's off the field misdemeanors (witness intimdation, assault, criminal damage), he is apparently late for training, sulks when told to train with the reserves and demanded £30,000 a week - yet has only made 3 appearances so far. i think Fergie came to the conclusion that despite his undoubted talents, he did not have the maturity and/or application for a club like utd. As someone once said, its 99% persperation, 1% inspiration.
As for Pogba, "he showed more in 15 minutes than Giggs has all season and Scholes" - erm....i don't remember his scoring or setting up a goal? A couple of nice runs, one good tackle...but that was about it! Last night was a nice little 20mins cameo - but he was average against Crystal palace in the cup when he played 90mins, as was morrison (who played 45mins), so lets not get too excited....trust fergie...he gets most of these things right you know.
"I thought Carrick/Scholes/Pogba were very similar to Busquets/Xavi/Fabregas" - what the f**k was Silvio Dante drinking last night?

...I have to respond to this.
"whether Sir Alex has finally become too out of touch with the newest generation. Maybe he has?"
Gavin Kirrage (Fergie also needs to decide if it's Lindegaard or De Gea for the rest of the season)
De Gea, Fabio, Rafael, Smalling, Jones, Cleverly, Pogba, Hernandez, Macheda, Welbeck and now even Amos...........
Yeah Fergie really is out of touch. Can't see any young players coming through.

...I can't help thinking Tom, Tractor Boy is spectacularly missing the point. Yes, United are firmly in contention for the title, and may well win it, but surely this is in spite of the midfield not because of it. Let's not forget Tom, United crashed out of the Champion's League from a stupendously easy group, and though they may not care so much are also out of both domestic cup competitions (going out of one to their bitter rivals). Oh, and there's the small matter of losing 6 - 1 at home to City. And quite how having to persuade Scholes to come out of retirement can be seen as a triumph for Sir rather than an indictment of his failure to address by far the weakest area in United's squad I find completing baffling.
He is probably the greatest manager we've seen in this country, but he is not perfect, and certainly deserves criticism when warranted. Are you United doing well Tom? Yes, I suppose they are. Does that mean Sir was 'right' about central midfield or could they being doing much, much better with a one or two top class midfielders? Make up your own mind.

'Wilshere Needs To Get Out Of Arsenal'
Jack Wilshire needs to get out of arsenal. Now I have no sympathies for the English national team and take as much pleasure as the next man in laughing at them. But he is one player I would relaly like to see at Euro 2012. And Arsenal's staggeringly incompetent medical team is breaking him. Please Man City/Chelsea (yeaaaah)/Barca/Real Madrid whoever just spend some money and save this top quality player.

Reflection On Tottenham
All the mad midnight movements indicate the following:
* Whatever happens with the season & Harry, we have major rebuilding to do in the summer:
- We have just one contracted out and out striker (Defoe),
- 1 RB,
- no midfield wing cover with pace
- 5 players worth nearly £40m out on loan (Jenas, Bentley, Pienaar, Corluka, Bassong), 2 of whom were recruited by Harry.
- Reliance on 2 good but old and crocked defenders - King and Gallas
- Adebayor - do we sign or not? We will need at least 2 strikers
- Still have Gomes and Gio moping around
- Need long term goalkeeping backup
- This is not to mention securing Modric, Bale down etc
If Levy thinks he can try to resolve all these major issues on the last day of the window in August, he is a moron and we are going to be a disaster next season - like we were when Berba left. I hope that he has the sense to avoid this but knowing how he loves his 'deals', and his blindness to the impact of this on the team, I doubt it.
* We may have hidden cash issues/ problems. In the last six windows our net transfer INCOME has been £10m. This is despite a rigidly controlled wage structure and the £30-40m CL money. Prior to 2008, we usually spent net £10-15m per season. We have seen none of this invested. Why? Are we waiting for HR to go, use it for the new stadium or is it pocketed by ENIC? Our squad size has shrunk by 4 players during that period.
* Is this another missed opportunity? We are third, and outside title contenders. We have made relegation rather than title signings...
However, I agree with some that HR deserves our faith and trust. He has earned it with the turnaround over the past 3 years. I was nonplussed with Kaboul, Freidel and Parker and look at the difference they have made. He gets players playing for him and whilst none of these are really long term players for the future (in fact has Harry signed ANY? Walker was probably youth deal), we have no choice.

In Praise Of Jay Spearing
I was watching the game last night and I'd just like to say what a pleasure it was to see Jay Spearing back in the side, he might not be the greatest or one of the highest rated defensive midfielders in the league but I think that a large contributing factor to the poor performances a couple of weeks ago (before the last week) was the fact we had no real holding midfield player on the field. This is what caused us a problem against Stoke at home, as there was no one to pick up the ball from the back 3 and link the back 5 to the front 5 and also Bolton's first two goals came with no one from midfield tracking the runners. His absence also led to the ad hoc fix of using Carragher there against Utd in the cup on Saturday.
Alonso he is not, but I have been very impressed with the level of improvement Spearing is showing on pretty much every level of his game. His passing and decision making is vastly underrated and I honestly believe that if he had been shown as much faith as Lucas was shown then he would have been a better player than him by now. I think that it was his absence rather than Suarez's absence that was a greater contributing factor to the aforementioned run of poor form. And before you start, no im not saying Suarez is cr*p / overated / not a racist / is a racist, he is a better player than Spearing but Spearing and his role in the team is what we have missed.
Of course he has his faults (notably his face) but I want to give credit where credit is due as say welcome back Jay Spearing.

A Bad Thing About Valencia

Paranoia At All
When Mancini said 'he took Everton too lightly', what he secretly and actually means is that Everton have been very poor at home this season but when Man City came to town they raised there game 10 fold, just so they can dent their title challenge....but when Man Utd come to town they fold like an accordion.
It reminds of me of when Fergie in 1996 said teams, specifically Leeds and Nott'm Forest, raised there game against Man U but would not be as competitive against Newcastle.....que Keegan rant.
Banister9 (Are myself and Mancini the only ones who find the disciples of Fergie, like Moyes/Big Eck/Big Sam etc, a little sickening? Brown nosing bastards.)
A Mail Called 'Stop Baiting Them In Mediawatch'
Now I'll be honest I love winding Liverpool fans up as much as the next man. I love seeing the steam coming out their ears as they go into the same old rant about the Kop, 5 Euro Cups, Steven Gerrard/Jamie Carragher have real loyalty, every one persecutes us, just because we're paranoid doesn't mean they're out to get us etc etc.
However can I please request that Mediawatch take a week off from point out Liverpool based hypocrasy. Admitedly I laughed out loud in the office when I read their point about Kenny Dalglish ealier on, but please it's giving the Pool fans who use this site yet another conspiracy theory. Please stop enabling their paranoia, I won't be able to stop laughing enough to get any work done.

Cisse Boy
I literally couldn't agree more with John, AFC, North London. I have an undying man crush on Cisse, this began before Liverpool even signed him and was so happy when we did. I even had a small figure of him on top of my Christmas tree this year. I shall be watching QPR play at every opportunity!
