Dear Brendan. Never Play Cissohko Again x

To say this bonus Sunday Mailbox is cobbled together would be a gross understatement, but there's some decent stuff on Liverpool, England & Blatter. And a haiku...

Should Gerrard Go To Brazil?
I have a question for the mailbox.

I would like to begin by referring to the comment made in yesterday's afternoon mailbox- 'Steven Gerrard is not injured; he's just playing as if he is.'

Now, most people would agree that his form has, recently, been pretty poor, so the question is this:
If Gerrard's form continues to be this poor between now and the end of the summer, should he still go to the World Cup as Captain (and therefore a first choice in midfield) on the basis of his previous efforts with England, and if not, who should replace him in midfield and as skipper?
Alex, (Anyone but Rooney for skipper) Leeds

Gauntlet, Thrown
Reading Simon MUFC's mail yesterday I was immediately struck by two thoughts:

1. If you have to insert the description (England international) after a footballer's name to add weight to your argument you are already on to a bit if a sh*tter

2. Simon MUFC? Wanna be arch nemeses?

On Cissokho
For reasons I can't be bothered to explain right now I watched the Bournemouth - Liverpool game on x2 fast forward and as such the game had no sound. I spent the first seventy odd minutes shouting at the TV venting my anger at the French Riverdancer and also at Brendan Rodgers for not replacing him with an infinitely better 19 year old. When I saw Flanagan ready to come on I calmed down a bit. That was until the board went up showing that it was actually Kelly coming off. I'm not proud (and actually quite confused by my actions) but I literally smacked myself in the head at the substitution. This is what it has come to Brendan: I would rather cause myself pain than watch that horror show of a left back anymore.

FAO Brendan
I was pleased to see us beat Bournemouth this weekend but had one key nagging thought once we went 2-0 up; why on earth did Brendan not bring on Sama and Ibe?

Everyone keeps pointing out that our squad is wafer thin and our potential transfer targets keep reminding us that they'd rather play for a big shiny pot that we don't compete for so clearly if our squad gets any more stretched we will have no choice but to turn to these players.

Ibe has had a little experience playing in the first team but Sama hasn't. A great time for their intros would've been at 2-0 up against a tired championship side. A more difficult time for a debut will be when the pressure is on (I.e brad smith against Chelsea) in a big game when all our rivals are chasing us down for 4th place.

I really rate Brendan and like so much about what he's doing (aside from when he calls us title challengers) but that was one moment that struck me as a bit odd. Maybe he has brought on so much progress so quickly that he opens the door to these finicky criticisms.

'Muck'
Matt Strangers 'F365 Says' was frankly muck. Just because we win an FA Cup game against a weak team we should be worried? He says ''Liverpool were battling their way to a scrappy 2-0 win over Bournemouth'' yet on the home page of F365 it says ''Man City survived a first-half scare against Watford to win 4-2 while Liverpool eased to a 2-0 win over Bournemouth...'' Which is it lads? Yeah we played a strong team but we clearly eased by them. You could tell the players had their eye on the derby next week and rightly so. They just weren't bothered, and we still won. What's the big deal?

And these cheap shots at Liverpool's squad depth are silly. This squad depth has kept us in the top 4 when we went periods without Suarez, Coutinho, Sturridge, Agger, Sakho and now Lucas. And they all basically start for the team. Everyone would prefer to have a better squad but its done its job so far.

And to put the nail firmly in the coffin, last time I checked Suarez has 20 plus goals this season? Well ahead of his rivals. I'd call that our Ozil Effect/Fergie Factor.

A Blatter Rant
After waking up on a Sunday morning and reading another news story about violent protests in Sao Paulo against the World Cup I have to ask. What the f*ck are Sepp Blatter and Fifa playing at?

- 2014, numerous violent protests from the public, unhappy at the cost of stadiums/infrastructure, when the rest of their country is royally f*cked financially. Stadiums and transport seemingly nowhere near finished some 130 days before the tournament starts. One of these 40,000 seater stadiums will become the home of a third division side after the tournament...

- 2018, Russia. A country with an utterly appalling racism record (including the unfurling of a banner with a cartoon of a black player eating a banana). Horrendous abuse of Yaya Toure resulting in CSKA having to play behind closed doors. Their president Putin has recently warned homosexuals not to promote any form of homosexuality during the Sochi Olympics (particularly to children because that would be really bad).

- 2022. Quatar. 2 years after the judging process , Fifa have realised that it's a bit too hot in the summer so they'll play it in the winter. They don't seem to have quite worked out how yet but that'll come. More importantly a report was recently released confirming a minimum of 382 Nepalese deaths as a result of working conditions directly related to WC preparations (stadia, etc). 382, in 2 years. The tournaments not for another 8 years. The number of deaths of workers from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka yet to be released.

Did someone just turn the clock back to the 1950s? Jesus, who are these guys accountable too? USA, most European countries, Australia, Japan, these countries have stadiums ready, infrastructure ready, and populations who would love to see the WC in their country.

I know in reality it all comes down to money, but that last stat really stuck with me. 382 deaths in 2 years since the WC was awarded to Quatar. I knew they were incompetent, i didn't know they were quite so dangerous.

A West Ham Fan Unhappy With How The Alphabet Works
Greetings! I love the site, and whenever you have a new feature, I eagerly await reading about whats happening with my team, West Ham.

Unfortunately due to West Hams placement in the alphabet, this sometimes means that I have to wait for days, or weeks (or in some features, months) until West Ham get a look in.

For your next brilliant feature, please consider flipping the alphabet on it's head for a change. For too long have Arsenal fans received the benefit of getting first mention, probably without even realising it, meaning they don't have to read about any other teams, whereas I have to read all team news just in the hope that West Ham will be mentioned in the next section.

When will it be West Hams year to be top of the charts? Please make it happen.
James

Why Is Pink Less Acceptable Than Yellow?
Sorry if I missed this, but how the hell did we get to the stage where a pink football is acceptable?

I watched a man utd game a couple of weeks ago where there was only one player out of 22 wearing black boots. Ok, players want to stand out, but who the dickens signed off a pink football? It doesn't make sense. Ok, a yellow ball is acceptable when it's snowing. What is a pink football for? It is wrong and it should stop. Now.

e was right to leave, but not just because of the money City were coming into. If I remember rightly he had a reasonable amount of chances to shine at City, but he never passed the bloody ball. Loads of aimless dribbles and 40 yard shots and not much else. I would say that if he had learnt to be a bit more of a team player he may have done better at City.
