This Bloke Has A View On Everything
Re: Why didn't Rio chop down Bellamy, I have to agree. I thought he would at the time and was thinking of when Ole Solskjaer did it to Rob Lee in 1998. I agree, was pretty angry when a) he attempted that ridiculous pass, b) failed to tackle Bellamy, and c) when he didn't chop him down.
On reflection I wonder if he thought Ben Foster would at least make an attempt to cover one of his posts at some point in the game.
Re Should they drop Carra?
I always thought he was over-rated and can't forgive him for his 'international retirement.' He was only ever in the squad (like Phil Neville) because he offered full back cover and, if you're desperate (remember we had Nicky Butt playing there and I have never seen a worse passer) the def mid role. At the time, in his favored centre back position there was Rio, JT (also over rated but don't get me started), Woodgate, Campbell all ahead of him in the pecking order. Cashley & Wayne on the left and both Nevillers and probably Wes brown ahead of him at RB. He's never had any pace, is small, and really, really annoyed me with his "it hurts more when I lose with Liverpool" rubbish. It doesn't hurt me more. I love it when you lose with Liverpool, and I love it even more now. I want them to carry on playing him until he's been utterly humiliated every striker in the league. Hopefully especially so by Nugent, Danny Webber, Frazer Campbell, Darren Bent and Robbie Keane. I'm confident Teddy Sheringham could beat him in a foot race and pretty sure that Sol Campbell would be a better bet for Liverpool than him. Don't tell Rafa though, I'm quite enjoying watching Carra at the moment. He's looking like a small child who can barely touch the bottom in a swimming pool trying to keep his head above water.
On another note, I agree with elsewhere on this site, and something else that really gets my goat, is the teams with no chance of winning anything else, not recognizing the League Cup as their best chance of Silverware. It was when Bolton did it in the UEFA cup that I got most angry. I really thought they deserved to get relegated that year solely for that effort. It's not like Hull or Wigan have European football to worry about, and I'd say 6 more games won't kill them. Apparently if Hull got through last night they were going to pick the groundsman and his two 16 year old sons to have a go in the next round. Seriously, play the effing game.
Sorry, had to get that out. Phew.

Ooooh, That's Told Us
For those of you who think football began with the Premier League Era. There was football pre Sir Red Nose and there were one or two defenders who scored the occasional goal back then. So forget hat tricks, how about Graham Roberts 4 goals for Spurs against Southampton in the 81/ 82 season.
Oh, and no I'm not a Spurs fan but I can remember back further than a Goldfish. Which is probably a good thing as I am still waiting for my beloved LFC to win another title.

Ahhh, Bless
With the constant 24 hour stream of football news, everything becomes analysed to the smallest detail, is there a chance things can often be a lot simpler than we realise? I once took my girlfriend to the Emirates last season, I asked her afterwards which players she remembered and the only one she could think of was someone called 'Abadabadayer'. When we were in the pub last Friday, Sky Sports News was on and still showing the controversy from the Arsenal v City game, I said to her "your mate Abadabadayer is in a bit of trouble" and went on to explain about him running the length of the pitch to wind up the Arsenal fans and the subsequent problems it caused. She looked at me and deadly serious said "Are you sure he didn't just get confused?". Tom, Bromley
Ahhh, Bless, Part Two
Your story about Ronaldo checking up on United reminded me of the time when Beckham and Ruud were at Madrid, having just secured the title the Madrid team were celebrating when Beckham came running over to Ruud, right in front of the TV camera's shouting "United have won the league" to which Ruud and Becks both went mental about, seems once a Red always a Red, I wonder if old winker will do the same if United manage to secure a record 4 in a row?
PS: Just a little note to IrishKoppiteMk1, Berbatov to score 2 this weekend to make you look slightly silly ;)

Yup, We Need Every Mail We Can Get In
Reading in the gossip column this morning - Arsenal linked with this Cesar Azpilicueta chap. Left footed full-back who plays on the right... You don't see that very often. You get a lot of right footed players playing at left back, but not many the other way round...
I know this is a pretty irrelevant email, but hey, it's a Friday.

Why Players Shouldn't Become Refs
I'm sure you'll get a few of these, but in reply to Sami Abbas's "eureka" moment about why ex-footballers don't become referees, I think the fact they finish their footballing careers as multi-millionaires and can continue making a living by airing generic opinions in the media rather than getting abused by players and fans in the high-pressure and relatively low-paying job of a referee could have something to do with it.

Agger>>>Carragher
I disagree with Javed and any defense of Carragher, no pun intended. This season he has been the weakest link and has cost LFC dearly. His time's up. He's never been intelligent or had much technique, all he has had is passion. Unfortunately that is not enough at this level anymore, especially at his age. Hyypia was a much more intelligent player than Carragher. Javed will be proved wrong when Agger gets his chance again, mark my words he will shine. There's no substitute for skill. I'm sorry your time's up Carra.

Remembering The Best Of Posh
A bit of perspective from the usual big 4/Premier league willy-waving before the weekends games.
Yesterday former Peterborough United centre-forward Terry Bly died of a heart attack. He achieved something in 1960 that has never been repeated and probably never will. In a Posh team that had just been elected to the football league for the first time he scored 52 goals (including 7 hat-tricks,) in 46 league games. He also played for Norwich. Coventry & Notts County before going on to successfully play for and manage Grantham Town in the non-league.
There's always a lot of talk of who the 'best ever' players are, but no true Posh fan would argue that anyone else comes close to being our best ever striker. RIP Terry

In A Fitting Spot
Does anyone else scroll straight down the mailbox to the last few entries? Definitely the most interesting! BTW Steve Watson was playing right mid against Leeds me thinks.
