While rival boss David Moyes began his new role as Manchester United manager down the road, Pellegrini arrived at Carrington to start planning in earnest how to wrestle back the Premier League trophy from Old Trafford.

The former Malaga boss, who was officially confirmed as Roberto Mancini's replacement last month, flew into Manchester on Sunday morning, joined by right-hand man Ruben Cousillas and fitness coach Jose Cabello.

And though his new players are not due back until the end of the week, the 59-year-old was quick to acquaint himself with City's complex in Trafford.

With expectant owners and fans, Pellegrini will be keen to stay ahead in the transfer market after a double swoop for Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho and Spanish winger Jesus Navas.

A striker appears the next priority, following Carlos Tevez's departure to Juventus, with Brazil's Confederation Cup winner Fred thought to be a prime target.

While Pellegrini and Moyes will do fresh battle for superiority in city and league, the Chilean is likely to have a third title challenger in Jose Mourinho, back at Chelsea for a second spell.

City host United on 21 September, before travelling to Stamford Bridge on 26 October, but start their Premier League campaign at home to Newcastle on 17 August.

hould have stayed because we carried him for 6.5 years. And then he has a breakthrough season, and was gone soon after. MU fans, you would be as disgusted had C Ronaldo left in 2007 and not 2009.

ood grief. Someone guessed that the form English player at the moment might be in his national side with some other players? And that's espionage? Now if they discovered that Emile Heskey was going to be in the starting line up.... at right back.... THAT would be espionage. Give it a rest Roy.
