Before the 27-year-old put pen to paper on his new contract with the Prussians, he had a clause in his contract that would allow him to move clubs if a minimum-fee release was met.

However, leaving the Westfalenstadion was never an option to the Poland international, despite overtures from City.

"Dortmund simply had the advantage over Manchester City," Blaszczykowski told Polish newspaper Przeglad Sportowy.

"We have a great squad, fantastic manager, incredible supporters and a very bright future ahead of us.

"In Dortmund, me and my family have everything we need. I did not pursue interest from other clubs in my services."
