Two goals from Sergio Aguero and one from David Silva gave Manuel Pellegrini's men a 3-1 win at West Ham, who replied through Ricardo Vaz Te.

And Richards, who was making his first start of the season in the Premier League, told Sky Sports: "It's about time we got that away win.

"We played well. It was a bit nervy at 2-1 but we got there in the end.

"I don't think we deserved to concede. West Ham pressed well, but I thought we defended well. I thought Silva and Aguero were outstanding today."

The defender confessed he did not know rivals Manchester United had dropped points at home to Southampton before City kicked off.

The champions conceded a late goal to draw 1-1 at home to Southampton to continue their difficult start to the season under new manager David Moyes.

Richards added: "I didn't see - the last I saw they were 1-0 up. That was a nice little boost. But Arsenal and Chelsea won so it'll be a tough season."
