Zeki Fryers: Settling in at Tottenham

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was furious with Tottenham when they signed Fryers a fortnight ago, accusing the London club of setting up a secret deal to sign the defender on the cheap just four months after he left Old Trafford for Belgium.

Spurs denied that was the case, insisting the England youth international wanted to return to England after he became homesick and had fallen out of favour at Standard.

Fryers seems not to have been affected by the controversy, however, and has been happy with the start to his Tottenham career.

"It's been great so far, mixing in with the lads and the facilities here are great to learn and to get better," the 20-year-old told Tottenham's website.

"I knew a couple of the lads from England youth internationals and I pretty much know everyone already. I've just got to get to know the staff now. I'm very happy to be here."

Fryers has played two games in Spurs colours since his arrival - a development squad win over Charlton and a 5-1 under-21 victory over Wolves on Monday.

Tim Sherwood, Tottenham's head of football development, has challenged the left-back to prove he can make the step up to the first team and the player himself is happy with his efforts on the pitch so far.

"It was great to play in the friendly (against Charlton) last week, playing 60 minutes there and I played 90 minutes against Wolves. I've now got to build on that," Fryers added.
