Jonny Evans: Relishing Manchester United's Bernabeu trip

The 10-times European Cup winners are unbeaten in 33 matches at the Bernabeu and have not lost to United on home soil in their last four meetings.

However, Evans is undaunted by those statistics and with the Red Devils having reached three Champions League finals in the last five seasons compared to Real's two semi-final appearances over the same period, he insists there is reason for the Spanish side to be fearful.

"We can't be daunted," said the Northern Ireland defender. "We are Manchester United. Teams look up to us as well.

"I am sure the same pressures will be on them. They have good players who can hurt you but we play against Premier League opposition every week and that is one of the best leagues in the world.

"It is just as if we were playing against Manchester City or Liverpool. They are top players and we have to be spot on."

While it is Evans first visit to the Bernabeu as a player, the 26-year-old has been to the stadium as a spectator and is looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere from the pitch this time.

"I was about 15," he said. "The Galacticos were playing and I remember thinking what a fantastic stadium it was.

"The atmosphere was superb and I am sure it will be something similar. Those are the nights you relish, although it is a weird feeling. We probably take it for granted and don't get to appreciate it at the time."

I

m curious as to what image Real Madrid are trying to re-establish as I always thought their pre-Jose image was one of a bunch of a classless bullies tapping up whoever they wanted while living it large on borrowed money they're never going to pay back.
