The title and relegation battles may be settled, but it is all still to play for in the fight to secure a top-four finish. Arsenal are favourites to record a victory at Newcastle which will see them secure Champions League football next season, while Tottenham are odds-on to keep up the pressure by beating Sunderland.

Ryan Giggs has signed a one-year contract extension, Manchester United announced on Friday.
m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.
afa has to be favourite for the Everton job now, surely :) He'll realise his ambition to live and work on Merseyside again, get the best out of whoever plays for them, maybe win some cups and be thoroughly loathed by the toffee fans. What's not to like? Go ead, Ken, gimajob!
hat is arguably the least inspiring England I have ever seen. There is not a single name in that list that makes me think I might actually want to watch this team. Not a one.

@umahahahe Man alive you're hard to impress! Of course people are making a fuss, it is exceptional. You can name the number of players who have played at the highest level, for a top club (Champions League) beyond 40 on one hand, the hand of someone the victim of a foolish lawnmower mishap. Of course Giggs can't play every game and he doesn't reach the heights he used to, but he still has moments of brilliance, for example the pass the RvP for the equaliser v WHAM in the FA Cup. The fact that the best manager in the game still thinks Giggs has something to offer as a player is testament enough to how remarkable he is. Ferguson has shown many times he's not into sentimentality, if Giggs wasn't deemed good enough, he wouldn't have been offered the contract. I can make no comment on Giggs the man, I've never met him, but as a player he has had a career matched only by Paolo Maldini in the history of football.

It will be great to see Giggsy back next year. He doesn't have the pace or reflexes any more to really trouble the top teams.. but he can get the job done against the lesser lights in the PL (perhaps the CL too). His pass to RVP for the equalizer v WHam kept us in that cup, and he was terrific against QPR.. against Everton too for that matter.

Take note Chelsea. If they are still delivering there is no reason to get rid of players because they are perceived as too old. Great work Giggsy !!

I admire Giggs The Footballer. His 1000+ games will be quite astonishing - maybe a record never to be broken and as such, the man is a footballing legend. I bow to his skill, fitness and dedication to Manchester United. But do me a favour: "an exceptional human being"?

@gerard1979: I was shocked when I found out and kept thinking it cant be true. We can`t make footballers into role models, off the pitch they`re capable of anything. Ronaldo and Suarez are two of the least liked players in the world for their preceived personalities but apparently both are stand up guys

Didn't think that I'd be saying it at the start of the season, but I'm glad Giggsy has signed on for another year. Used in the right way he can still do it at the top level. There won't be many other players who can be as good for anywhere near as long as he has. What a player.

fair play for getting another year but he is only 40,the way people go on you would think he is 50. he doesnt play to many 90mins anymore be different if he did. he doesnt start to many games againts top teams because he cant handle it anymore, but once he chips in with the odd goal here and a steady performance but nothing more every other week people will think that he is the best thing since the wheel. he has been solid without been spectacular with a few years now.

How many outfield players have played in the top flight beyond the age of 40? I can only think of Teddy Sheringham, Gordon Strachan and Stanley Matthews, although I'm sure there must have been more in the old days.
