erfect replacement for Carragher. Slow, average when he was at his best, now well past it. Would just slot straight in! :)

@mancunian7> Say what you will, even after Ronaldo left he has a soft corner for United. He didn't celebrate his goals against us and only ever said positive things about the team.
Given the past popularity of La Liga, its no surprise that the last generation of Europeans grew up as Madrid or Barca fans. Hopefully the next generation will grow up as PL fans and hence not want to leave the PL for Spain.
As for De Gae, he is an Athletico boy, so moving to Real would basically be treason to his club fans. So we have a good chance he stays here long term.

At 22, Schmeichel and Van der Sar were no way near as good as de Gea is. Schmeichel was playing at Hvidovre, a small Danish club. Van der Sar was second choice keeper at Ajax. The potential this guy has is insane, he might not be the best keeper around right now but a few years from now and I can't imagine too many keepers being close to his level. That is, assuming he lives up to his potential and doesn't crumble under the pressure of being the United keeper...

So it begins! We'll now have year after year of 'I'm happy at United but Real Madrid are a big club, I'm flattered by their interest' stories until he inevitably leaves.

Keep this lad, and I promise he will be one of, if not the most prolific goalkeeper in England as he improves over the next decade.

Man Utd should play De Gea at right back. Given that most of his saves are with any part of his body other than his hands, he could stand on the goal line and "save" anything that comes his way, leaving the "other" goalkeeper free to deal with the crosses, diving at people's feet and using his hands stuff. Utd would therefore have two keepers and be very hard to beat.

It makes it easier for us if he was to move on knowing that he isnt from this part of the world. Just Like Ronaldo it would be understandble if one day he went back. I just hate players when they come up with 'I love this club' bla bla and next day theyre out of there.

I think De Gea is a really good keeper and has the potential to be a great keeper. I remember Schmeichel in his early years and like De Gea, it wasn't all plain sailing. Of course he isn't the finished article and not by a long way. However, he's pretty good now and if he keeps improving (and filling out lol), he will be a fantastic keeper. SAF saw something in him and I think he is spot on. He is at the best place for sure to become a great. All the negative talk has just been stupid and shooting from the hip from journos that know little about the game. Give him two or three more full seasons and I think you will see one of the worlds best.

I love the scrawny blonde stick insect and all his gangly, leg-based saves. I reckon he'll be brilliant, has put up with some extremely unfair criticism and has recently been showing good form.

It is always going to be the danger with a thigh quality Spaniard - they will always want him back I hope we get at least 10 years out of him but no doubt he will end up back in Madrid at some point in his career. We have to keep winning to keep our top players same as any where else.
