Even on their way to this season's Premier League crown, Ferguson's squad have had to face the criticism of lacking the quality of teams of the recent past.
But the Scot thinks his current batch have all the ability to be compared to the likes of his Treble-winning squad of 1999.
And Ferguson even singled out 21-year-old Jones, a £16.5million signing from Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2011, as a player with potential to even eclipse the likes of Sir Bobby Charlton.
"You saw Jones tonight," Ferguson told Sky Sports. "Arguably, the way he is looking, he could be our best ever player."
Ferguson also said when asked about the criticism his players have faced: "It's dead easy to say that, nostalgia plays tricks on people's minds.
"Put it in context, we've now got 84 points with four games left - we've never done that.
"We've won most of our games, drawn three, lost four, and the goal tonight... all the great goals we've scored over the years, from David Beckham through Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Eric Cantona, that goal has joined that. These players have joined the pedestal."
