United saw the title snatched from their grasp in the closing seconds of last season with Sergio Aguero's late winner for Manchester City against Queens Park Rangers sending the championship to the Etihad instead of Old Trafford on goal difference.
Sir Alex Ferguson's side have bounced back in style this season and clinched the title with four games to spare following a 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Monday night.
Smalling was delighted with the title success and admitted the celebrations meant much to the players after the heartache of last season.
"It was a great feeling after that first half, it was all tied up nicely," Smalling told Sky Sports News.
"We all celebrated that night and you could see the pictures in the celebrations that it means so much after what happened last year."
