The 20-year-old, who joined the Red Devils in 2009, will now be on the books of the Premier League champions until June 2017.

Johnstone won the FA Youth Cup with United in 2011 and has also played on loan for a number of clubs, including Scunthorpe United and Walsall.

The youngster is a regular for the Under-21s but has yet to make his debut for the first team, although he was part of the United squad in December for their League Cup clash against Stoke City and the Premier League encounter with West Ham United.

Johnstone has also represented England at the Under-16, Under-17, Under-19 and Under-20 levels.
