Reports have claimed that Germany international Hummels is new United manager Louis van Gaal’s top defensive target following the departures of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic at the end of last season.

Hummels, who scored in Germany’s 4-0 win over Portugal in their opening World Cup group game on Monday, is not ruling out a transfer in the future, but is not currently considering changing clubs.

“I never think about that or talk about it because it is something that isn’t important for me right now,” Hummels is quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph when asked about a move to United.

“Maybe it will be some day, but I don’t expect it to be like that this summer.”

The centre-half suffered a thigh injury during the victory over Portugal, but Hummels is confident that his World Cup is not over.

And, following the impressive display against Portugal, Hummels believes that Germany have the potential to win the World Cup in Brazil.

He added: “If we are concentrated and focused, both defensively and offensively, then we are a good team and that is the way we play.

“If we can do that in every game, we are going to have a good chance to be very successful.

“The thing is to work as a team. If we work defensively as we should, then our attacking play is so good that we have a chance to beat every team.

“We can win the World Cup, that is for sure. But the same counts for teams like Spain, Brazil and the Netherlands, so it will be very tough to win this tournament.

“We have to be very good to win it, winning five or six games, and if you have one bad day, then the World Cup is over.”

ood lord that's got me unnecessarily excited. Damn you Storey. Cut to Liverpool being crushed under the wheels of Sparky's Stoke Machine and Firmino brought off the bench to no effect. It's the hope that kills you.

think he'll do quite well. My only reservation would be Kagawa, who had similar stats to Firmino in the bundesliga before he came, but time will tell.
