The home side had led from the first minute when Garry Richards scored his first goal for the club, but Aljofree popped up two minutes from time to break Gills' hearts.

Gillingham will be relegated if Cheltenham pick up a point in their remaining games.

The Gills made a dream start with a goal after 54 seconds as Nicky Southall whipped in a free-kick from the right and Richards arrived unmarked at the back post to head home.

But then, with seconds remaining, Jon-Paul McGovern's corner was flicked on by Sean Morrison for skipper Aljofree to head home the equaliser.
