The former Peterborough midfielder scored his 12th goal of the season, converting Jason Lee's pass from close range after Myles Weston had ripped open the Wycombe defence with a fine run.

County knew that victory on Saturday would secure their League Two safety regardless of how the other strugglers fared and once they got their noses in front, they worked hard to protect the precious advantage.

Wycombe, who rested six regulars to save them for the play-offs, made a lively start and star striker Scott McGleish headed against the angle in the second minute.

They continued to carve out the better first-half openings without really troubling Russell Hoult although the goalkeeper did have to make a crucial save with two minutes to go when he dived to his left to deny Delroy Facey.

And Wycombe finished with 10 men after Sam Stockley was sent off in injury time for a second booking.
