Jevons seals victory~for Terriers

Substitute Phil Jevons scored in a 1-0 win for Huddersfield at Luton just as a typical end-of-season encounter looked destined for a stalemate.

With new manager Stan Ternent watching in the stands, caretaker boss Gerry Murphy was handed the reins for the last time as his side extended their unbeaten run to six games under his tenure.

Chances were few and far between in a dour first half, although Andy Holdsworth should have done better when he spooned over from 10 yards after good work from Danny Schofield.

Andy Booth shot just wide soon afterwards, before Luton came back into it, with Sam Parkin twice going close before the break.

Dean Brill kept Luton in the match with a point-blank save from Schofield just after the hour, although Terriers keeper Matt Glennon had to be alert to make a smart stop from Don Hutchison at the other end.

Luton's wretched season was finally ended after 77 minutes when Jevons rose highest to power home a header from a Joe Skarz cross.
