Ten-man Mansfield bowed out of the Football League in timid fashion with a 2-0 defeat at Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday afternoon.

After a goalless first half, the home side took the lead when Ben Strevens headed home Sam Sloma's corner after 50 minutes.

Paul Benson then doubled his side's lead three minutes later from the penalty spot after Stags captain Jake Buxton was sent off for hauling down the striker.

Dagenham should have gone further ahead but Benson skewed an effort across goal and Stags goalkeeper Jason White saved well from Jon Boardman's towering header before turning over Strevens' drive.

The Mansfield fans turned out in their numbers and protested against the board, but under fire owner Keith Haslam opted to stay away from the game.
