Stoke's Liam Lawrence will start on the right in the Republic of Ireland's key World Cup qualifier against Italy in Dublin on Saturday night.

The 27-year-old has been drafted into the side in the absence of Damien Duff for the Group Eight qualifier at Croke Park.

Lawrence, who scored a superb free-kick when winning his second senior cap against South Africa last month, will be joined in the team by defenders Richard Dunne and Sean St Ledger after both shook off the injuries which have hampered them during training this week.

Kick-off is at 8pm.
