The Valiants were in charge for most of the first half on the way to their first home win of the season and edged ahead in the 15th minute when Marc Richards struck with a 20-yard effort.

The visitors, to their credit, improved and Craig Lindfield headed his first goal for the club from Lee Bradbury's cross in the 58th minute.

But Vale's response was swift as Simon Richman nodded them in front with the first of two goals in two minutes.

Centre-half John McCombe sealed the win after Louis Dodds had done well to get to the by-line and cross.
