The visitors took the lead in the 24th minute after Nathan Jones brought down Alex Revell in the penalty area, leaving Lee Barnard to fire the resulting spot-kick into the bottom corner.

The Glovers forced the issue after the restart as they went in search of an equaliser, Adam Federici tipping Gary Roberts' effort around a post.

However, on-loan Robson-Kanu doubled the Shrimpers' lead in the 86th minute before Danny Schofield, who later saw red, set up a tense finale with a consolation from close range in the closing stages.

Gary Roberts was then dismissed in the 90th minute having earlier been booked while goalscorer Schofield was issued a straight red for serious foul play.
