Danny Hollands and Steve Fletcher scored the goals which saw off The Shots' moderate challenge and saw the Cherries move above Grimsby, who lost to Brentford.

Aldershot offered little in the way of attacking ideas, although Andy Sandell went close early in the first half before Bournemouth took the lead.

Shots goalkeeper Nikki Bull punched a centre from Mark Molesley straight to Hollands who blasted home a left-foot shot from just inside the area.

Bull failed to reappear for the second half because of a hamstring injury and his replacement Alex McCarthy made a great save near the end to deny Brett Pitman.

But before then Bournemouth had got their second goal in the 57th minute - a powerful header from Fletcher, his first since rejoining the club from Crawley.
