Considine put Aberdeen on their way to a second home win of the season when he rifled the ball past Mark Howard after good play from Mark Kerr in the 79th minute.

And with St Mirren committing bodies forward for the equaliser Aluko wrapped up the points with a composed finish with only two minutes remaining as Aberdeen jumped to fourth in the table.

Fans were still making their way into the ground when the match kicked off after a short delay as a result of a road accident, which had caused traffic problems for people trying to get to Pittodrie.

St Mirren had the first opportunity when Billy Mehmet headed a Hugh Murray corner goalwards after four minutes but Jamie Langfield gathered comfortably.

Aluko, playing just behind Lee Miller and Darren Mackie with licence to roam, tested Mark Howard with a low drive a minute later.

Considine was next to test Howard but his header from a pin-point Mark Kerr cross was straight at the Englishman.

The home side had a great chance to take the lead after 19 minutes when Howard left his goal unguarded after flapping at a Charlie Mulgrew corner but Scott Severin and then Zander Diamond could not find a way past the covering Buddies defenders.

Scott Cuthbert came to St Mirren's rescue after 29 minutes when Mackie latched on to a ball over the top from Kerr and the young striker crossed for the onrushing Miller who looked certain to score until the timely intervention of the on-loan Celtic defender.

St Mirren had half-hearted appeals for a penalty waved away when Andy Dorman fell under pressure from Richard Foster before another delivery from Mulgrew caused panic in the visitors' defence.

This time the former Celtic left-back found Miller whose header was blocked and Considine was inches away from connecting with the rebound.

The major talking point of a dismal first half occurred after 39 minutes when Howard picked up a long through-ball outside the box with Mackie ready to pounce.

Howard escaped with a yellow card and from the resulting free-kick Miller hammered the ball goalwards but the goalkeeper produced a terrific stop.

Both sides continued to waste possession in the second half but an intelligent pass from James Hamilton released Mehmet but the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international was denied by a perfectly-timed sliding tackle from Diamond.

Aberdeen continued to push men forward but struggled to create chances and were looking vulnerable on the break.

Dorman outmuscled Considine to race clear down the right before threading the ball through to Mehmet but he could not divert it past Jamie Langfield.

The home side picked up the pace and Aluko fired a dangerous ball into the box that Foster was inches away from meeting with his head.

Aberdeen eventually took the lead after 79 minutes with an outstanding finish by Considine.

St Mirren looked to have cleared the danger when Howard punched clear a Mulgrew free-kick but when the ball fell to Kerr he intelligently turned near the byline before feeding Considine who rifled the ball high into the net.

Aberdeen could have doubled their lead after fantastic play by Miller found the energetic Chris Maguire, on as a substitute, but the youngster pulled his shot wide.

And with St Mirren committing players forward for an equaliser a huge gap was left at the back for Aluko, who raced on to a ball over the top before showing enough composure to slot past the helpless Howard.
