New Saints boss Alan Pardew saw rookie Scot Matthew Paterson, 19, open the scoring in the 51st minute in Saturday's League One opener with a clinical right-foot finish.

The fallen Premier League giants - docked 10 points after the club went into administration under the previous owners - failed to build on their lead.

Millwall battled back strongly and were awarded a penalty in the 64th minute after Wayne Thomas fouled Jason Price.

Alan Dunne's penalty was saved by Kelvin Davis, but Abdou headed home Steve Morison's cross three minutes later to secure last season's beaten League One play-off finalists a deserved point.
